Senior Mechanical Engineer


Westwood Recruitment are on the lookout for a Senior Mechanical Engineer for our client based in Croydon. This position involves overseeing engineering tasks, conducting thorough reviews of outputs before approval by the Head of Engineering, ensuring a robust '4 eye' process for all tasks and outputs. The Senior Mechanical Engineer contributes significantly to achieving or surpassing customer requirements, delivering engineering products and services with emphasis on quality, cost-effectiveness, safety, and timely completion (OTIF) to meet VTGB and VTA targets and standards. Core Responsibilities: * Provide hands-on engineering support, including BoM checks, condition assessments, job pack creation, engineering changes, concessions, preparation for overhaul projects, FAI preparation, fault investigation, warranty claim investigation, problem-solving, method statement creation, component overhaul instructions, and more. * Develop expertise in transmissions, couplers, cooler groups, final drives, and other products over time. * Take accountability for personal work delivery and review and approval of work from other engineering team members. * Review drawings and designs from reverse or re-engineering projects for mechanical components and systems. * Support the setting and upholding of standards by the Head of Engineering and Quality. * Mentor junior engineers and workshop fitters, providing support across a range of tasks. * Assist with training requirements and contribute to the continuous development of the team. * Aid in supplier selection and assessment, collaborating with purchasing and quality teams. * Contribute to the improvement, development, implementation, and management of engineering processes in safety-critical environments. * Understand and adhere to various requirements, including BS/ISO/RISAS standards applicable to mechanical and rail engineering systems. Professional Experience & Education: * Experienced engineer with a minimum HNC/HND qualification (or equivalent) in a mechanically biased engineering discipline. * Minimum of 10 years of professional engineering experience with a focus on general engineering, reverse engineering, testing, problem-solving, technical process writing, condition assessments, technical investigations, and task management. * Knowledge of various industries, such as Mobility (Rail and Marine) and Power Oil and Gas sectors, is advantageous. * Knowledge of mechanical driveline and connecting products and systems is advantageous. * Familiarity with CAD packages (Siemens NX and Autodesk Inventor) and technical drawings is advantageous. Specific Skills & Knowledge: * Hands-on, flexible, positive, adaptable, and proactive approach. * Fluent in technical and conversational English. * Commercial awareness and experience, understanding the impact of engineering actions on contracts and future business. * Understanding of production processes and ISO 9001:2015 quality systems * Strong numerical and analytical skills, including the ability to work from engineering first principles.
